I loved getting to know and fall in love with Clay and Nina! Clay quickly developed a soft spot for Nina and I liked how he saw deeper than her "outlaw" ways to the innocent girl she really was, being almost forced into that life by her brother. Loved how he took care of her and how when he claimed her, nothing was going to stop him from keeping her - even Nina's own fears. Loved how loyal and devoted and innocent Nina was and yet despite her innocence, her strength and fire burned bright. Watching her learn to trust someone other than her brother (who sadly wasn't always deserving of her trust) and see her grow and come into herself was a sweet journey. Loved how they fell for each other and believed in each other!! Definitely a beautiful story! Loved it as much reading it now as I did reading it for the first time years ago.
And as with all Bittner books, the history lessons she includes - this time with the camels the US Government brought over to help the army - always teach me something new! I never knew this and love getting the history along with the story
